There are many ways to reach Abu Simbel.
Most groups join a convoy, which leaves you about 1 1/2 hours to
explore the temples in broad daylight.
Much more luxurious: a cruise on Lake Nasser
(3 days).

A good compromise: take a flight to Abu Simbel from Aswan,
stay for the night and see the temples at dawn when there
are hardly any tourists.
